Sev Usal

Description

Sev usal is the popular street food in Vadodara in Gujarat. It is made with slightly thick gravy-based usal which is topped with spicy tari, sev, and chopped onion. It tastes chatpata, slightly spicy, and is loved by all kinds of age groups. Ingredients & Method

Ingredients

  • Soaked peas – 250 gm
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Asafoetida – 1 tsp
  • Ginger chilli paste – 1 tbsp
  • Garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Onion puree – 1 cup (2 medium size)
  • Tomato puree – 1 cup (2 medium size)
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Cumin powder – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • Usal masala 2 tbsp
  • Water – 2 cup
  • For Tari:
  • Oil – 1 tbsp
  • Garlic (chopped) – 1 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
  • Salt ½ tsp

Method

  • Take a pan, add oil, asafoetida, ginger chilli paste, garlic paste and sauté it for 2 minutes.
  • Add onion puree and sauté it. Further add tomato puree and mix it well.
  • Now add, red chilli powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, salt to taste and mix it properly.
  • Further add lemon juice and mix it. Then add soaked peas & mix it properly. Add usal masala and mix it well. Now add water and mix everything well.
  • Cook on medium flame for 5-6 minutes.
  • Sev Usal is ready to serve.
  • For tari, take a small pan add oil, chopped garlic, red chilli powder, salt and mix well. Tari is ready.
