Kanda Poha

Description

Kanda poha is mouthwatering and tummy filling healthy breakfast or a snack. It is a quick Indian breakfast derived from Maharashtrian cuisine, made with flattened rice, onions, peanuts and a pinch of some spices. Kandey pohey, a delicious vegetarian dish with a pack of nutrients is popularly also known as Mumbai style pohe but now it is eaten in many regions of India and so is prepared in many different ways. Let’s see Desi Gabbar’s style to prepare poha.

Ingredients & Method

Ingredients

  • Oil 4 tbsp.
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp.
  • Chopped green chillies 5
  • Curry leaves 5-6
  • Peanuts ¼ cup
  • Chopped onions 1 ½ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder 1 ½ tsp.
  • Flattened rice (Poha) 400gms.
  • Lime juice 1 tbsp.
  • Sugar 2 tsp.
  • Fresh cilantro leaves
  • Bhujiya sev
  • Pomegranate seeds

Method

  • Wash the poha in a colander (strainer).
  • Poha should be moist but not mashed.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and when they splutter add curry leaves, chopped green chillies and peanuts.
  • Sauté for half a minute, add chopped onions and continue to sauté.
  • Add salt to taste, turmeric powder and mix it well.
  • Sauté for two minutes and add poha.
  • Mix it well, add sugar and mix lightly.
  • Cook till poha is heated through.
  • Add lemon juice and mix lightly.
  • Garnish with cilantro leaves.

  • Garnish kanda poha with bhujiya sev for crunchiness and some pomegranate seeds enjoy and it with a hot beverage of your choice.
